Marita Propato has more than thirty years of experience in the fields of diplomacy, business, financial services, insurance, humanities and social sciences, IT, oil & gas and corporate communications. Main clients include local and global companies as well as foundations, government agencies, NGOs, embassies, universities and international organizations. She has served as interpreter for political leaders including President Bill Clinton and she was the Lead Interpreter of the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games Professional Interpreters Team, interacting closely with the International Olympic Committee, and coordinating multiple booths.
Marita has also interpreted at G-20 meetings, during OECD missions, for European Union delegations and the British Embassy, at PCAOB reviews and at events organized by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). She provides regular services to clients based in the USA, Latin America and Europe, including arbitration proceedings of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and litigation cases before New York Courts, in various modalities (consecutive, simultaneous, sight translation).
She has two degrees in Translation, from Lenguas Vivas “Juan Ramón Fernández” School and from the University of Belgrano, and is registered with the Sworn Translators Association of Buenos Aires (CTPCBA). She has two certifications issued by the American Translators Association (ATA). She has studied French, German and Portuguese. She attended the translation schools of Lucile Barnes and Lili McDonough. Her volunteer positions include president of the Argentine Association of Translators and Interpreters (AATI, 2014-2021), Vice-president of the Latin American Regional Center of the International Federation of Translators (FIT, 2022-2025), and contributor and editor of FIT’s newsletter Translatio. She currently serves as Co-Chair of ATA Professional Development. Her academic positions include professor of Interpreting at the graduate program of University of El Salvador, professor of translation at the graduate program of University of Belgrano, and professor of advanced translation and interpreting and tutor at IESLV “JRF”. In 2025, she was recognized with FIT’s Award for Interpreting Excellence.
Marita is the co-founder of the Lingua Franca team of translators and interpreters. She is an advocate for the profession and for professional development. She is frequently invited to speak at conferences, including the ATA Conference, in which she has delivered presentations on transcreation, specialized translation and interpreting. During the pandemic, Marita contributed to set the foundations for a remote interpreting guide issued by AATI. While being AATI’s president, she gained relevant experience in cultural events management and partnering with NGOs in the fields of copyright, accessibility, diversity, and indigenous languages.
